Creating Inclusivity with Color: A Case Study
Tandem Design Co.
Feb-Mar 2024
Teaming up with Frank Noz, the founder of Tandem Design Co., was a delightful adventure. His openness and willingness to share insights about himself and the company made crafting the case study feel like a breeze. What really made the experience was how Frank treated me not just as an employee but as a valued teammate, fostering a collaborative and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the process.
Frank's infectious energy and passion were impossible to ignore. It was like catching a contagious wave of excitement every time we discussed the project. Watching the user testing videos was an incredible experience as well. Not only did I connect deeply with Frank's vision, but I also formed a genuine bond with the individuals at Lighthouse SF. Their candid feedback stirred something within me, reinforcing the importance of authentically representing their experiences in the case study.
One particularly insightful moment came when a participant expressed skepticism about the term "empathy," fearing it might convey pity rather than genuine understanding. This feedback resonated with both Frank and me, prompting a reevaluation of our approach. We decided to pivot the case study, focusing on themes of understanding, community, and compassion, ensuring we honored the voices of those we were representing.
Working alongside Frank and Tandem Design Co. wasn't just about completing a project; it was about embarking on a journey of connection. Together, we weren't just marketing some Braille sticky notes; we were amplifying voices within the disabled community and laying the groundwork for a brighter, more inclusive future.
